Helen Donnell tells the
story of a small church in Little Rock that had lost its choir
director. Helen came to the rescue, though she had no experience
leading choirs. She practiced with a recording and its score
set on a music stand and—voila!—a director was born. Helen is
passionate about leading people in singing for the glory of God,
and about embracing the Spirit who calls us to turn our hearts
and minds toward prayer as we sing. She has an Associate of Arts
degree from Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina, a Bachelor
of Music from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, and a Master
of Music in piano from Indiana University. A retired licensed
minister in the Disciples of Christ Church, Helen has been married
to Wayne for over fifty years; they have grown children and two
grandchildren. When she isn’t directing music at Peace, she can
be found reading history and cultivating a newfound love of opera.
